SAXX DropTemp Cooling Cotton Boxer Brief

Overall summary

The DropTemp Cooling Cotton is the boxer brief I keep coming back to in a rotation that also includes Bonobos Underwear and MeUndies Boxer Briefs. It feels more premium to me because of the shaped pouch and separator panels as well as the fabric and fit. I find it expensive, but I can feel what those extra bits of construction are doing.

It doesn't make me feel particularly special, and honestly, that is fine. Sometimes I want an everyday pair that I can wear in the locker room without feeling shy about my underwear. This is a very good version of that pair.

Pouch / Support

The separators were part of what interested me in SAXX, and they work better than I expected. They keep my package apart from my thighs, which I especially appreciate when it is warmer out, without giving me quite the full separate-pouch feeling of some other underwear I like. I think of it as partial separation: there is still room to breathe, but I don't feel as though everything is sitting in a completely separate compartment.

Surprisingly, though, the best part for me is the pouch itself. There is actual shape in the cut, particularly underneath my package, where it cups rather than lying flat across the front. It doesn't lift everything up, but that little bit of support makes a difference compared with the flatter boxer briefs I used to wear. There is also enough room for my preferred upward position. Between the shape and the separators, I don't need to keep rearranging my package during the day, which matters more to me here than getting a pronounced lift.

Fabric and Feel

The main fabric is 57% cotton, 38% modal and 5% elastane. What I appreciate on the body is the amount of stretch: it can feel taut around my butt and hips without giving me that overly tight sensation I associate with some fabrics intended to stop the legs from rolling. I like a close fit, especially under pants, but I don't want to feel squeezed into it.

The cooling is harder to describe confidently. I have found these more comfortable than some of my other boxer briefs, especially outside, and I think the cooling may be helping. But I wasn't walking around consciously noticing a cooling effect. They stayed comfortable enough for me to stop paying attention, but I can't separate the effect of the cooling fabric from the separation and fit.

Waistband

The waistband has enough elastic to grip my hips securely without creating much pressure, and it doesn't roll on me. I think the height helps: it is substantial enough to hold, without being so tall that it wants to fold over. Medium is the size I would choose again. I strongly dislike extra fabric under pants, and this size gives me the close fit I want without feeling too tight.

Rear and Leg Openings

The legs ride up a little under tight pants such as jeans, but then settle comfortably. I do not get the feeling of loose material hanging around under my pants, which is one of the things I cannot stand about boxers. There is more fabric around my butt and thighs than in a thong, of course, but it still feels like a close-fitting pair rather than another layer I need to keep arranging.

Movement and All-Day Wear

My longest wear was about 18 hours, through breakfast out, shopping, errands, driving, dinner and finally lounging at home. Nothing especially intense, just a day that kept going.

What I remember about the underwear is how little I remember noticing it. I don't recall excessive adjustment, heat or dampness becoming a problem, and it felt fine through the evening. This is a remembered long day rather than a timed wear log, so I can't give an exact count of adjustments. But it captures why I wear this pair so often: it can stay on through ordinary changes of activity without becoming something I want to deal with.

Washing and Durability

I bought this pair in July 2025 and estimate that it has been through around 60 wears and washes, using cold water and a low tumble dry. There is fuzz on the fabric now, and the pattern has faded enough that I would no longer describe it as dark black. It looks older.

The fabric and elastic still feel good, though, and as far as I can remember, the comfort is much the same. Most people aren't seeing it anyway, so the cosmetic wear doesn't bother me much. These are expensive to me, which makes me glad the pair has kept earning its place in the rotation. I would buy another, and I am curious to see what SAXX comes up with next.
